A Wildflower Wedding on the Island

There was something especially meaningful about Ally and Graham’s wedding on Mackinac Island. With generations of Graham’s family connected to the island and summers spent along the shores of Lake Huron, the setting held a deep sense of history and sentimentality for them. Ally’s own love for the beauty of Mackinac made the weekend feel even more personal.

For their flowers, the vision was wild and free, with a thoughtful mix of Michigan wildflowers and subtle nods to their home in Los Angeles. And from the very beginning, one thing was certain: Ally wanted yellow.

A Bouquet Inspired by the Season

Ally knew she wanted a yellow bouquet, and together we explored the flowers that could bring that vision to life. She was especially drawn to delicate orchids, but we encouraged her not to become too attached to any one specific flower.

Working with seasonal flowers means availability can change from day to day. Flower prices fluctuate, wholesalers' inventories shift, and sometimes the exact bloom you envision simply isn't available. Instead, we focus on the feeling and overall design, allowing the flowers that are at their best to guide the final arrangement.

When our wholesaler was able to secure the orchids Ally loved, we kept it a secret.

We wanted her to have one little element of surprise when she saw her flowers for the first time. When the bouquet was brought into the bridal suite, it was everything we had hoped it would be. There were only a few tears.

Michigan Wildflowers Meet California

During the planning process with Juniper and Lace, we knew we wanted to fill the reception tent with as much botanical beauty as possible. Our goal was to create a space that felt lush, whimsical, and full of life. Hanging greenery cascading from rattan lighting created a carefully layered textured helping achieve a sense movement, making guests feel enveloped in the garden-like atmosphere.

The floral design throughout the wedding carried the same spirit as Ally's bouquet. Michigan wildflowers were woven throughout the celebration, creating arrangements that felt natural, abundant, and a little untamed, while pops of yellow brought Ally's original vision to life.

The flowers were designed to feel connected to the landscape around them while also reflecting the couple themselves. A little Michigan, a little Los Angeles, and a lot of personality.

Every detail was thoughtfully considered to tell their story.

Some weddings are difficult to put into words because the meaning behind them runs deeper than the flowers, the venue, or the weekend itself.

For Ally and Graham, Mackinac Island was part of their story long before their wedding day. Graham's family has generations of history and connection to the island, while Ally had developed her own love and appreciation for its beauty. Their summers spent along Lake Huron made the island a place filled with memories and meaning.

You could feel that history throughout the weekend.
